South Vale is the southern counterpart to Paleville. South Vale is a large forested and mountainous region with rivers on the south side of Toluca Lake. A national highway, County Road 73, crosses it from southeast to northwest and connects South Vale to the northern half of the city of Silent Hill, as well as to nearby towns, including Pleasant River.
South Vale contains several landmarks, such as an old cemetery with a small chapel, an observation platform with a panoramic view of Toluca Lake, and some farms. Because it is a mountainous region, several roads and streets have tunnels, such as County Road 73, Rendell Street, and Saul Street. South Vale is separated from Paleville to the northwest by rivers; however, the real boundaries of the region are still unknown.
The Observation Deck is a location situated next to Toluca Lake that consists of a platform with restrooms and parking. Visitors who come to Silent Hill can park on Nathan Ave to use the restrooms or have the opportunity to enjoy the panoramic view of the lake offered by the platform.
In addition to the lake, Paleville, the northern district of Silent Hill, can also be seen from this site. It is from this place that James Sunderland begins his journey in Silent Hill 2. During James' stop in the town, County Road 73 is closed to travelers. There are no objects of interest at this location, except for a map of the town, which is found inside James' car. In a second playthrough, a blue gem can also be found near one of the toilets that serves to unlock the UFO Ending of the game.
The Lakeview Hotel was a hotel built next to Toluca Lake on West Sandford St. in the tourist area of Paleville. It was built and managed during the tourist boom of Silent Hill to attract visitors to the city.
James Sunderland and his wife, Mary Shepherd-Sunderland, stayed here on vacation before the events of Silent Hill 2. The Lakeview Hotel, specifically room 312, is James and Mary's "special place" and serves as the final location.
After James and Mary left Silent Hill, the hotel was completely burned down by a devastating fire, but it appears restored and intact thanks to the spiritual powers of the town during Silent Hill 2. This hotel is nothing more than an illusion conjured up as James expects the hotel would still be there and probably didn't know about the fire.
In Silent Hill 2, you can see a sign on the side of Nathan Avenue advertising the amusement park. It is also one of the correct answers for the Trick or Treat Box.
Lakeside Amusement Park is an amusement park in Silent Hill. Located on West Sandford Street in the tourist area of Paleville, it is a popular tourist attraction with key activities including a roller coaster, a carousel, a Ferris wheel, and some other carnival attractions and shows.
Robbie the Rabbit is one of four mascots of the Lakeside amusement park. The others are Kathy the Kitty, Huey the Horse, and Dawn the Duck. However, Robbie appears more prominently in all games.
Lakeside Amusement Park is visited in the games Silent Hill, Play Novel: Silent Hill, Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and Silent Hill: The Arcade, as well as appearing in the Silent Hill: Revelation movie. Although not visited in the game, Silent Hill: Homecoming features a postcard of the park. Excluding the Normal ending of Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Lakeside Amusement Park is always seen in the Other World.
Blue Creek Apartments is a small apartment building in Silent Hill 2, built next to Wood Side Apartments. The fire escape from Wood Side Apartments was taken down to make room for Blue Creek Apartments. Access to the third floor is completely blocked.
The entrance to these apartments can be found through the fire escape of Wood Side Apartments and also in a small area located behind Baldwin Mansion. Blue Creek Apartments also open onto an alley that leads directly to Rosewater Park.
The building is designed as a small museum that displays photographs and artifacts from Silent Hill's past. Many photographs hang on the museum walls, some of which showcase emblematic locations of the once-famous city. Some pieces also reference the dark practices that have taken place within Silent Hill.
Much of the building is in ruins during James's visit; display cases are destroyed, doors torn from their hinges, and a wall demolished. Some of the museum's images have also been affected by the effects of the Other World, as they depict horrible scenes and eerie figures.
In Silent Hill 2, James Sunderland must cross the park to reach another area of the town. This is where he first meets Maria, mistaking her for his wife, Mary Shepherd-Sunderland.
During the game's introduction, it is revealed that James received a letter from Mary, who had died by the time the letter was written, inviting him to her "special place". James assumes it is the park and his goal is to get there. As he ventures through the park in search of Mary, he wonders if it could be the "quiet, beautiful place she was talking about". Mary and James had visited the park during their stay in Silent Hill years before, and James claimed they were "just [the two of them] looking at the water".
Later, James returns to the park to recover a key, which can be found in a screwed box buried behind the statue of Jennifer Carroll. This key is used to open the door that leads to the Silent Hill Historical Society.
Heaven's Night is a strip club that gains moderate fame in South Vale, located in Silent Hill, Maine. It has three floors, and the main entrance has a long staircase leading to the front door, which is on the second floor.
It is first encountered in Silent Hill 2; James Sunderland must pass through while chasing Laura. Since the back doors are initially locked, James needs Maria's help, who hints that she works there by using the building's keys. In Born of a Wish, Maria begins her journey here, where she has her own room.
Pete's Bowl-O-Rama is accessed for the first time after finding Maria in Rosewater Park, while she and James Sunderland are chasing Laura.
After leaving Maria (who says she hates bowling) outside, James enters the bowling alley where he meets Eddie Dombrowski and Laura once again before she escapes again. Eddie remains in the bowling alley eating a pizza that he inexplicably acquired and gives James the little information he knows about Laura.
After leaving the bowling alley, Maria informs James that she had just seen Laura run past and could not catch her. Then the two exit through the fence behind Pete's Bowl-O-Rama to find Laura.
